Are the new Wolverines track friendly??
#1
I have owned a 03 Wolverine 350 for a long time, always had a blast trail riding in all conditions..But the first time I took it on a track and jumped a 15ft table top the frame snapped in two. I ride pretty hard,I beat this Wolverine to death,Its more of a money sink to keep it in good condition then to just look for a new one,So now I'm looking for a new quad,I'm 200lbs and a pretty good rider I'd say lol
But to the question,I am torn between the Raptor 700r and the new Wolverine 450..I want the best of both worlds,I want to be able to ride any trail out there, but sometimes I like going on the track and messing around..Is the new Wolverines stable enough to jump 10-15ft in the air??Or is the Raptor going to be a problem in soupy conditions??I ride alone I depend on a winch to save me often lol
Any feedback woud be great,thanks

If you want a track quad the wolvy is too heavy, and if you try to jump it big, youll bottom it out. The raptor is going to get stuck in really soupy conditions.
If you want the all around quad get the wolvy and put some shocks from elka on it to help on jumping
If you want a fast, track/trail quad get the raptor

You are comparing two completely different quads. I have both. Raptor 700 is mine and Wolv. 450 is my wifes. The wolverine is a fun bike. I am able to get a little bit of air with it but nothing like a 15ft table top. It does great in the mud, trails, and dunes. It is heavy and hard to power slide. But I have never taken it on a track.
But if you say you are a pretty good rider, then there is no reason why you can't handle the 700. If you like speed, it has way more speed than the 450, and the Wolvy is not that slow. Lighter, more power and fairly easy to power slide. Good acceleration to make any jumps you want. Great in the dunes, trails and open fields. Have not taken it into deep mud. No need too and don't want too. Then I would have to clean it.
Hope that helps.

yeah I think I'm going to go with the 08 Wolverine SE..I do like my tight muddy trails more then track riding..I will still go on the track but just wont hit the big jumps full throttle lol,the SE looks nice and sporty in it's black and red

Before you plop your money down on the Wolfy 450, you might want to check out the new Renegade 800. We had one out at our last club ride. He was the only one that kept up with me on my Raptor. It seemed a lot more sporty than the Wolfy.
Problems with the Wolfy 450.
Suspension sucks - too soft - not adjustable - has to be replaced to ride well - rear end likes to kick up and smack you in the ***.
Nose dives really bad when making fast turns.
Brakes are very mushy, poor response, very bad for riding fast.
Underpowered - slow acceleration - needs clutch kit
I'll ride my wifes Wolfy sometimes for fun, but it is by no means a fast bike. It's perfect for her, but I'd never buy one for myself.

You will bottom out the suspension on big jumps, I have done it to mine many times and I have never gotten it over 6' in the air. Its hard to say what you should get between a raptor and wolvy, because they are totally different machines made for totally different things.....you just have to choose on which type of riding you will do more.
As far as the renegade....I agree, its like a wolverine on steroids. But the downside is that you can get two wolverines for the price of one renegade.

The suspension on my 07 Wolfy SE is adjustable, its a little tippy on sharp turns but no worse than any other sport quad</end quote></div>
Technically, your right. The shocks are pre-load adjustable.
But that is not going to help with these very cheaply built shocks (Yamaha skimped to save $$$). If you look at bikes like the Raptor or YFZ you'll see the are compression adjustable and some even rebound adjustable. This is how you adjust shocks for proper ride.

I have aired my wolverine off a 15 foot table top and while it did bottom out it wasnt too bad, scared the **** out of me. I was hitting it enough to jump and land on the middle of it and then I hit it with a lil too much speed and landed on the other side of it.
