Default 96 400 sportsman electrical?

just bought a 400 sportsman and i have no lights only a awd light that i can switch on and off. Is there any fuses in this? How do i check the front light? Do i have to remove the plastic or just un screw the light adjustment screws.

you have to remove the plastic for the center light its 4 screws check all the bulbs.....if these machines are run with a dead battery it will burn out the light bulbs that what i was told and even read it on here, might be the reason you have no lights .

just a thought

No fuses. Remove the headlight pod, not the adjustment screws. Check for voltage at the connector, probably just needs a bulb. Make sure it has a good battery in it. If you use the pull start to start it, and the battery is bad the voltage regulator sends out 15, to 16 volts to get the battery back up to where it supposed to be and that is too high of voltage for the electrical components on the unit. Rap it up and bulbs start blowing out, cdi's and reverse limiters can get messed up etc.

Thanks for the info. I was wondering why i was getting about 17 to 19 volts on the meter. Looks like i will be buying new bulbs they are all burnt and a new battery. I have a new battery in my 250 trail boss but if i switch i guess the 250 will put out high volts.

If i put the dead battery in the 250 trailboss it would blow the bulbs in it? The battery is shot won't take a charge.
