Clutch killed my cover
#1
used wheeler I bought has a nasty clunking and rubbing noise in the clutch cover. I took it off and the clutch has worn a hole right down in the bottom of the cover. Why is this doing this? I have read that it might be a warped cover. Is this something that happens a lot if the wheeler is not used properly. Motor mounts look good. Any body have this happen to there wheeler before why is the clutch eating up my cover??

What kind of shape was the belt in? If the belt shreds, it would do what you are describing, and would be a lot less costly to fix.
If the clutch sheaves themselves are rubbing the cover, first check to see if the back and front covers are installed properly, and look for warping.
If that all checks out, unfortunately, it could be a costly repair.

A warped cover that allows the clutch to rub would be super obvious to spot. Take of the cover and rev the motor and see if anything is wrong with the movement of the clutch and secondary. It should behave like the end of this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_HhKSY3Ro8

Belt is in good shape seems to be the bottom of the primary clutch and a little on the secondary. With good luck this will just be a warped clutch. Any one know how hot these things get inside the cover?

on the older models the cover sometimes would get stepped on or what not and it would push sown onto the clutch and wear a hole in it. make sure theres no bad bearing making it move around ad well.

It can get pretty warm in there. While you're checking, follow the clutch snorkel and make sure nothing is clogging it.
