Ditto.
The biggest advantage to the 250 is that it's a 4 stroke and will be more durable with a lot different (less) maintenance. Also less performance is expected. I bet you'll walk all over the 250 Raptor. Compare other items 2 stroke to 4. Dirtbikes you almost have to double the cc's of a 4 stroke (sometimes more) to get the power and speed of a two stroke on a similarly sized bike. The 250 is a bit lighter though.... Also you don't have to put anything but gas in it to go ride.... I suppose it's a great point for one who's looking for simplicity.
My Blasters will both leave 660 Raptor off the line, but the 660 has a higher top end. The Blasters leave almost anything 4 stroke at the light.....and the power band is pretty macho till about 50mph. After that, (if the other machine cathces up) they can slowly take the lead and more. I usually top out about 58....(this measured running the Blaster on the field,.... car down the road next to me). On a course your agility (provided you've got the cajones) outperforms the bigger quads most of the time (unless your dealing with heavily modified 4 wheelers or proffessional riders)
If you just want to do something to increase performance, you have one of the easiest bikes to gain extra with minimum changes....
Add a Pipe (FMF DG or some other brand) and re-jet the carb and you will see some major difference. this is one of the cheapest performance enhancements I've ever seen (ratio of gain per dollar).
Change the gears for top end or power off the line or climbing ability. this is cheap but there is a sacrifice to the one you don't enhance. Higher top speed = lower power off the line and climbing power is lesser. It's a leverage thing....lower power typically means a clutch wears out faster too...
Since the 250 is a virgin product there are no significant mods readily available just yet. (they are coming though) The easiest mod they can do without getting really expensive and having things made custom, is put different tires/wheels on it, which you can also do for the same price probably, this to help the handling by lowering the center of gravity, and/or rear end width.
I constantly see ebay ads boasting 75mph Blasters, with almost no mods or simple ones. I don't particularly believe everything I read though....so keep in mind I own 2 Blasters also. '89 bored 60 over, 18x11x8 wide rear tires, and a FMF gold series with a power core 2 (not yet jetted), and a bone stock 2006.
both are fun to ride, and vveeeerrrrry different riding types. I'm disappointed in the shocks on the 2006 but the power is great.(yeah,....I'm looking on ebay for some older shocks....) Anyone got a set of Black Shocks for a 2002 or prior Blaster?

Keep the races straight and reasonably smooth, and you'll be fine. If you race on a track, or in the woods you may have a battle on your hands though. The Raptor 250 is lighter, and has better suspension and handling, but comes up about 150cc short for its four stroke motor to be able to beat a 200cc two stroke in a straight line drag. The Raptor 250 will beat a Honda 300 EX in a drag race if that gives you any more to go on.
