Raptor 250 or 350
#1
Hi, i'm new here and was wondering if anyone has the 08 raptor 250 or 350 and what they think of it? I have 10 acres and will be riding it there with my kids but i am buying a can-am ds90X for my daughter and want a new quad to run around with her. I really want a yfz 450 and i have alot of atv experience but i am kinda tight with the funds and don't wanna get off 7 grand for the YFZ as i just purchased a new BAJA boat and the wife may kill me, lol. I will probably be taking it to Silver Lake sand dunes as well to stopm around on. Do you think the raptor 250 or 350 would be a descent machine?

The Raptor 250 is very small for an adult. The added horsepower of the 350 will help when riding in sand over the 250's horsepower.

I havn't went to look at the 250 yet, i have looked at the 450R and the 700R, and a kfx450R. I read the specs on the 250 and it seems a little small, did i mention i am 6'3"? lol I don't know, i may just have to bite the bullet for a 450 or 700, my dealer has 2 06 700R's left and he told me 6500+tax. Thats too much for that, i've saw 07 leftovers advertised for 5700+tax. Is the 350 much bigger than the 250?

Here is what a Raptor 250 looks like parked next to a Grizzly 700. They are tiny. We don't have a Raptor 350 to park it next to, but you could always do that at a dealership.

And here is what they look like with a happy 11 year old riding it. He was doing donuts on it just seconds before this picture. I wish he would quit doing that, the rest of us are tired of the dust, LOL. Anyway, he is 4' 11", and weighs 88 pounds, so if you are 6' 3" you might be a bit too big for the Raptor 250. I'm sure it would be fun to ride none the less, because it is fun for me to ride, and I'm way too big for it as well. I don't really think it would have enough power for an adult in the sand dunes though, unless you just want to play around on flat sand. It has decent power for a 250 (significantly better than a 250 EX we had before), but it is just a 250 after all.

Another picture of the < 5' tall Raptor pilot.

And the Raptor 250 is not nose heavy at all. It flys great, is very well balanced, and super super easy to flick around in the air. Everyone in our family has taken turns riding our Raptor 250, and we all think its a fantastic little ATV. But I still don't think it would be best for someone that is 6' 3".
I think the advise to go with a used YFZ 450 is the best yet. That sounds like a good idea to me. Good luck with whatever you get.

Yes, the 350 is much bigger than the 250, you should be able to find a 350 for under 4K, leftover that is, Id pay the extra and go for the 700, you only live once

Icemanls2, the one thing I will chime in here about is that the 450s aren't really great for slower trailriding with children. They really prefer a spirited pace that younger kids can rarely sustain safely. While it has never overheated yet, the auxilliary fan on my YFZ is constantly running when I ride behind my son on his 90(he is pretty slow/cautious though.) For an adult, 6'3", I wouldn't buy anything smaller than a 400. The 400EX(Honda) is rock solid and proven, while the Z400(Suzuki) offers an increment of performance in practically every category. It is arguably every bit as reliable as the EX to boot. The 400 class has better comfort than the 450s, and enough power to keep most happy. Handling is also better than the 350 Raptor or 300EX, not sure about the 250 Raptor. Anyway, I think you will get a better bang for your buck on a 400 class sport quad over the 250/350s.

Thanks for the input, that photo of the 250 really shows it's size and i don't quite think that will fit the bill, i've been doing some calling around and i think i'm just gonna bite half the bullet as i found a dealer that has 2 07 raptor 700R's and will sell it to me for 5799+tax. Not to bad a deal and there's no question this quad will fit the bill.
