carb?? new, runs bad
#1
Obtained a 200s and a 185 from my dad that were sitting for five years. the 185 would always start on the first pull and still did up until now. the 200s had a leaky carb and after several cleans, i quit and stole the carb from the 185 and put it in the 200. now the 200 runs like new. i got a new after market carb on ebay for the 185. it took at least thirty pulls to finally get it going, then it idled fine with no adjustments. went for a test drive and it seems to be starving for air or choking on gas. when i come to a stop, it idles for a bit, then stalls out. now, even warm, it takes more than 1 pull to start even after warming it up around the block. my house is at about 4500 feet and it around 40 degrees F on average in the day. if i need to do any carb adjustments, then please explain as you would to a retard with full detail. i have no experience with jetting, or other carb adjustments.
second note, my air cleaner was really beat up, so i replaced it with a uni air cleaner. question for you?? how exactly does the air get in that little box anyways.
when answering my question, please remember that the 185 ran like a champ before i stole the carb out of it.

i used to have the same problem on my 185s what i did i tightined the overflow screw adjusted the main pilot 1 turn in and half turn out and i got a new seal for the carb to then it started to run a little better so i maid shure the gap and the spark plug was good wich it wasnt then it ran perfect. the air filter should have vents in it and all the air filter dose is make it to where it gets clean air not dirty air you could run just fine with out it hope this helps this is exactly what i did to mine

Never run without an air filter! This is what keeps the dirt from the air out of your engine. Running without it is possible, but all you are doing is severely shortening the life of your engine. Why would you wan to do that?
