I am looking at buying a winch for my 07 800 X2. It is the standard model, and I am looking for a cheaper winch to have for emergency use. I do not go into deep water, nor go mudding. I am looking at the 2500 Gorilla and was wondering if anybody in these forums have mounted one on their X2? I seen one post where the guy said the X2 already had a mounting bracket installed.
I was also wondering about the front plastic grill and the Gorilla. Do you have to cut out a notch to make it fit or do you just leave it off?

 

i installed a gorilla 3000 on my friends brute force 750 and it worked pretty good until he had problems w/ the contacter going bad. if your going to buy a winch make sure its a 3000 lb where that bike is heavy for sure. as far as the mounting plate, i dont know but never seen a polaris come w/ one yet. the front plastic piece just snaps out and is where the winch protrudes out from. some people cut out the smaller hole to hide everything but the spool, but if you see my picture this is what it looks like w/out it. oh and you cant free spool if you just cut out for the hook/ fair lead sticking out.

 

i havent personally used gorrilla winches, i have a 2500 warn and have not been disappointed, however, if i understand your last comment, polaris makes a piece for the front of sportsmans that is already cut out to accommodate the winch. the only thing it doesnt have is the little oval polaris emblem on it. it makes the front end look better than having just the winch there sticking out. i only paid like $6 for it.

I have a 2007 X2 500. Just put a 3000 lb winch on. I order a grill cutout from BikeBandit.com. Looks way better than hacking up the original plastic. The cost was about $9 for the part and $6 shipping. You can do the same for yours. Just order the part that comes standard for the '07 X2 Deluxe. Make sure your winch spool is offset. These panels will not work with the center spool winches (Gorilla is not a center spool).
