2007 Sportsman 800 X2 deluxe review
#1
Last week I purchased a 2007 Sportsman 800 X2 deluxe, brand new. I can't say anything but good about the machine. It has tons of power, goes up hills like they are nothing.
My wife even thinks the rear seat is comfortable. This bike is awesome, anybody contemplating getting one should just do it.
I did some shopping around and looked at all the various machines, but kept coming back to the Polaris. It just has better features than the rest.
I was sold on the X2 due to the fact that the rear rack is rated for a 400 pound load, and I plan on doing some moose hunting.

Glad things are going well so far, Muddy. I know exactly what you meant in your comment about shopping around but kept coming back to the Polaris. Off all the Machines I considered, the big Sportsman had the most of what I needed and wanted.

One thing to watch is the rubber grommets on the rear part of the seat that snap over the posts that hold the seat on. I've had it happen twice now, a grommet can get pushed inside the plastic seatpost. If it happens on the right seatpost it will rest directly on the hot frame and melt. The first time they gave me a new seat, the second time I caught it before it could melt.
Other than that, my wife and I love our 2007 800 X2 Deluxe.

Thanks for the info on the rubber grommets, you are right about them pushing inside the seat. I think it happens if you dont put your seat on correctly. They are easy to get back out with a pair of needle nose pliers though. The way mine sits, even if it does go in, it wont melt my seat. The exhaust cant touch it.
I went riding with a buddy of mine today. He has a 350 Yamaha Grizzly 4x4. Keep in mind that I am in Alaska. The areas we went riding in were mostly swamp/woods. We have several inches of snow on the ground, and most water holes are frozen over with about 1 inch of ice.
My X2 would crack the ice and break through, where his Yamaha would just glide right over. My machine weighs about 900 lbs and his is about 500 lbs. Also, I noticed that due to his shorter wheelbase, he is able to manuever little dips that are deep without bottoming out easier than I can. I did bust through the bog ice and get stuck once, he pulled me out. But a few minutes later he got stucked and I yanked him out.
The X2 has a longer wheelbase and will bottom out on the footguards if you arent careful. It only happened once, but now I know the limitations of this machine.
Unfortuanetly, I cracked a small piece of the foot guard on the left side where there is no metal support under it. There is no metal frame under the foot guard until you get about 6 inches under it.
Its just cosmetic damage, but I am going to fix it anyway.
My wife likes the machine so much, she got her a 07 X2 500 HO Limited Edition in Stone Beige. I guess we're hooked.

glad your enjoying your new sportsmans. you've mentioned the real only draw back about the long wheel base x2's and once you know the limits you would be fine im sure. ride safe and enjoy them. oh, just a side note(which you probably already know) make sure if you go out and get them real wet and muddy being in a cold climate they freeze solid and can might do damage so keep them melted out.
