i thought atcs where banned in 87 if so. how come i keep seeing things on ebay like
the ower maunel up for sale?

now i BELIEVE, not 100%, they had already made and coded some 88s and sold them as left over 87s or parted them some story like that, everything2stroke.com has a bunch of ATC nuts i bet they know the details. my buddy had a 250r trike those things are mean. was fun him on that me on my quadzilla tearin up the local riding spots we turned heads...

I have been told there where a few 88s that made it to the dealers but they were forced to sell them as parts, some dealers sold them in pieses and other sold them in sealed crates, I often see new engines still in the crate for 350xs and so on. I have also been told that honda sold alot of the 88s built for america in canada and europe to cut their looses. If I remember right there was a guy on ebay about a year ago who had a whole bunch of 88 350x frames that came from a dealership he use to own, the story was he had got a early delivery of them and was forced to cut the frames in half so they could not be sold. Lots of good stories out there dont know what is true or false, but it sure is fun to speculate about it.

 

Keep in mind that honda is an international corp. with sales in many more countrys than just the US. And unless I'm mistaken hondas agreement with the government agency when they agreed to stop selling atcs covered the US branch off honda. These parts could possibly have been sold outside the US in 88. Hope this helps.

 

They made them, but not many people had them. A guy in australia has 2 of them he is on 3wheelerworld.com. He and his dad both bought them at the end of 87. He took pix and posted them on that website. Do a search on 88 big reds and you will find a lot of info. threewheelerworld.com rocks.
