2003 Rancher ES Wont shift....electric or manual????
#1
Trying to help a friend fix his 03 rancher since the dealer is two months behind.
Heres the details. When you start the ATV and attempt to shift it using the controll buttons the shift motor works and the shift lever ( emergency shifter) moves. It will up shift and down shift. You can try this over and over and it never gets in to any forward or reverese gear. I have adjusted the clutch and it was close to start with. I loosed the jam nut, turn the screw out untill its got snug, then back in about a 1/4-1/2 turn. None of this helped. Also the ATV is in a heated shop so clod temps is not an issue. Once you try to manually shift it its throws an error code. Sometimes a code 3 and sometimes a code 8. But it still doesnt go into any gears. I know both of this are related to the angle sensor and that is a common problem but I didnt think an angle sensor could cause it not to manually shift? Also I did check the Ohm readings on that sensor. I'm not sure what the correct method to check it is. I measured from the center to the outside terminals one at a time. One reading was 2.570 kohm and the other was 2.893kohms.
Any help would be appriciated. Thanks Eric

I would first remove the clutch cover and check that the gearshift center #6 (star shaped part) and the gearshift arm #10 (which is what turns it) are in good shape .. If it is a TE model (2wd) it could possibly be something wrong in the driveline when was the bike last used and was it driven into the garage ..

Its the 4wd model. It gets driven several times a week and no It was not able to drive into the shop.
It does sound like a internal mechanical problem though. Any thing else to check, and is there any repair manual info online? Thanks Eric
