If it's a 2002 LT-A50, it:
1) Is a 2 stroke;
2) Does NOT have a CDI; and
3) Has plenty of power if everything is working properly.
We have this exact unit for our son and with two of the restrictors still in place it runs at ~13 MPH and climbs amazingly steep hills. He loves spinning doughnuts on sand and ice. The throttle restrictor is screwed way in, so there's a lot of untapped power in that engine yet to be enjoyed.
I suspect yours has some problem. It definitely doesn't sound like it's running the way it should. Is the air filter clean? Have you removed the exhaust restrictor? (We've left in the intake restrictor for now, but definitely remove the exhaust restrictor.) Have you decarboned the engine using something like SeaFoam?
I weigh 170 pounds and even with the throttle restricted this machine will carry me up a decent hill at a decent rate. If you're not getting that out of yours, something is wrong.
