The Warn seems to be the most popular.

has anyone tried the Viper with the amsteel synthetic cable?

I am a tight wad by nature so I went for a cheaper winch than the warn. I got an extreme brand of winch for my wheeler, that was less than half the price of a warn, it looks to be built the same as a warn. Some more people will chime in about their winches.

Don't know anything about the viper, but I love the kevlar rope.

Same strength as wire with 1/6 the weight.

Safer - little or no recoil if it breaks (already tried that). If it does break, it can be spliced back together without losing much length and you can do it yourself.

NO wire slivers.

I got my amsteel rope here.

Lots to choose from - Get the same diameter as the wire 3/16". Same length too.
