04 500 auto, No Rerverse, Any ideas
#1
Was plowing driveway and everything was fine. All of a sudden no Reverse. What gives!? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I called Arctic Cat and they said $1700 dollars would fix the problem but they wouldnt say what was wrong!

try a few dealers and see what they say. could it possibly be as simple as the linkage? i ve never looked at an auto. trans. on these so im not sure how theyre set up.

I am guessing thhat the $1700 figure is to remove the transmission and open it up. Because "no reverse" could mean many things and they probably picked the most expensive one.
I have a few questions for you?
1) Does the shifter go into reverse? Neautral? Forward? and Low range?
there is a chance that if you cannot get it into all of these that your shift linkage has slipped and needs to be reset.
2) If it does go into reverse and the other gears doeas it make any kind of sound?
3) Might change the oil and see if there is a large amount of metal shavings present? They would more than likely stick to the magnet on the drain plug.

When I put it in reverse it seems like it wont engage. It sounds like it is skipping.I have a feeling I lunched the reverse cog in the tranny. Will check the oil for shavings, Thanx! (Forward Hi and Low does work)

i know AC uses suzuki motors/trans, dont know if thats one or not but if it is i know that the early King Quads had problems with reverse gears stripping. i heard that it was just about evry one got a new tranny, most under warrany, but thats just what i heard.
the good news is that they "fixed the problem" after the first year, so if you get it fixed there will be updated parts in there and you shouldnt have to worry.
