Default 2002 Honda Foreman 450S

I went to start my foreman to play in the snow (cold start) I turned on the gas hit the trottle twice and turned on the choke. Hit start and it almost started and then gas started pouring out the overflow hose on the carb. It didn't stop till I shut the gas off. Any help on this would be great.

Sounds like theres crud in the float needle valve. You can try turning the gas to on, and putting the end of the hose in a can,and unscrewing the slotted screw at the bottom of the float bowl( a couple of turns will do it) , and try flushing the crud out, but most times this fails. The only sure fix, is to remove the carb, and drop the float bowl, and clean it out.
These carbs dont have an accelerator pump, so pumping the throttle if the engine isnt spinning wont do anything. Theres a primer **** on the left side of the carb. Press it once,go choke on,and it itll fire right up.

If I have a minor problem with crud in the needle, usually a good rough ride and landing some big jumps, will jar the float and dislodge whatever is stuck under the needle.........

I forgot to add that when I put it away and not going to ride if for a while a week or so I shut the gas off and run the fuel out of the line. Would that also mean the float bowl is empty and just leaving all the crud. Should I just turn it off ( the quad) than shut the fuel off ?

I'll start with the easy one first. the screw on the bottom of the bowl, do I need to count the turns? I'm not a big fan of messing with anything on the carb.

That screw is just the drain for the float bowl. It doesnt need to come out, and you dont need to really crank it down tight when done, Just snug it.
That would also be a way of leaving the float bowl dry,.... turn the quad off, gas valve to off, and drain the bowl. Thats what is recommend and thats what keeps the carb clean. If the gas valve is left on, the constant evaporation, and refilling and condensation of solids, is what plugs jets and carbs. If the bowl is left dry, and the valve is off, then that cant happen. Most likely, its a piece of dirt, which is holding the needle valve open.
