I have a 2000 model. Dealer says to re-jet (step up one size) for NE Ohio winter weather. It cold starts great and runs excellent after a few minutes of warm-up now. Dealer says posibility of siezure with constant higher rews such as some of the backroad riding we do in cold weather. I've seen some discussion threads lately on cold weather re-jetting on some of the other manufacturer forums but nothing on the Scrambler 2 strokers. Want to thank everyone for your input on this matter as well as all the other info./opinions you share here. This is my first quad and I'm sure I have learn more here in a few months than I would from years of reading magazines.

it wouldnt hurt to up you jet 1 size but if your jetting is stock you should be ok because the factory usally puts fairly rich jets in to begin with. if you not shure theres a good test you can do: blast down the trail at full throttle an yank on the choke, if your quad boggs and smokes its ok
if it takes off and runs better when you pull the choke you need to jet up.

Steelheader, I have the same quad as you. and live in ohio also. I found i had to reget when riding below 40 deg. It ran a bit wierd and the plug color went from black to white/brown. I regetted to the books spec on the main jet from a 230 to a 250, and it is much better, but is just brown now. I also went in a 1/4 or 1/2 turn on my air screw and that help a bit also. it would be worth your time to look at the plug and see how yours is. if its white dont ride till you get the new jets. I thought going up to a 250 would be to big of a jump so I bought a 240 also, but the 250 is just good enough. I would have liked to see some more black color to it though. I like to play it safe in the jetting area. good luck. gj

I have a 270 in mine for winter riding. I believe that is is still a little rich. I would rather be a little conservative than have to rebuild an engine. In the summer I will take it down to a 260 amybe even a 250. With the 270 I have rode in temps down to 0 with no problems (yet).

I have simular mods to the RCR stage 1.
