First, have you tried playing with the stock settings at all? You might be able to save yourself a couple grand up front if you haven't played around with those yet.

If you do decide to upgrade, there are many options to fit this bill. If you want to stick with the stockers, there are a ton of places that will respring/revalve them for your weight, terrain, and riding style. Just going with wider a-arms will put more leverage on the shock, and you will notice a change for the better without even getting a revalve. For stock revalves I have heard good things about GT Thunder, C&D Racing to name a few. Elka, TCS, Fox, basically any of the aftermarket companies can set you up with what you want, but I would advise to get a complete front end from a a-arm builder. You can use the extra width in the desert, and going with a complete kit is the best way to get a sorted out front end and hopefully setup help after the sale.

On a side note, I think the stock YFZ suspension is light years ahead of stock Banshee stuff. I have a good deal of seat time on both and have heard that some people are taking the YFZ stuff and grafting it onto the Bansh for better performance. Are you comparing aftermarket on the Banshee vs stock YFZ?

I have never ridden in a desert but as far as i'm concerned, the banshee's suspention is junk compaired to the YFZ. Like Scooter said, the YFZ shocks are very adjustable, try playing with them first before you dump some of your hard erned oil money into new shocks.
