The zzz sound is your one-way starter clutch failing to engage. This is almost certainly a sign that it needs to be replaced. You'll need an L&L or L&A aftermarket one-way starter clutch (because stock is junk and that's why yours failed). If you replace with another OEM part you'll just have to do it again later and it's not much cheaper.

You'll almost certainly need a new OEM 52 tooth starter gear as well, since the one-way typically chews them up when it fails. Hardened bolts for the one-way should be availible wherever you get the part, but places like rspconcepts and ripper racing have them. You'll also need a gasket for the side cover and while you're at it an oil change is a good idea to clean out whatever the one-way may have shed into the motor. A full write up on the parts you need, where to get them, and how to do the job is availible at www.raptortranny.com, just look for the one-way starter guide.

yeah man its is 4 sure your one way clutch. I just did mine on my 02. I would get a clymers book 4 sure it helps alot. Look on e bay and you can find great deals for replacement clutch kits with everything you need to do the job. Just make sure you have a pulley puller. Good luck and happy ridin!

I was riding one day with my 01 Raptor & all of a sudden it just killed. Tried starting it. Turned over & everything. Thought it might have something to do with the fuel system...Wrong... It was my cam chain that broke... Got that fixed & she's running once again.
