Had a piston meltdown, just got the jug and new wisco/gasket set from the dealer today. The problem is, I was looking in the bottom half and the some metal shaving along with fine pieces. What's the best way of getting this out. I've sucked water/mud in it before, when this happened I would just sucked it out with a shopvac w/ a straw attached to the end. Then I would put some 2stroke oil in, work the crank for a while and suck that out too. I think this would be the best way to clean it out but if anyone has any better idea's. Let me know.

I'd try poking around in there with one of them extending magnets like auto stores or garages have, that might pick out some of the shavings.

I had a banshee that blew up big time, pieces of metal all through the bottom end and pipe, used a high powered magnet like the kind you have when you drop your tools deep into a cars engine or something, and a shop vac with one of the "stock" lol, "skinny" attachment thing.... put some oil in it and let it sit for a while, then I got rid of it, faced the facts and realized that I probally would need new crank bearings..

if the engine is out of the frame, just keep putting gasoline in the bottom end, shake it and dump it. do this several times and the bottom end should be clean.

Faster and Broke,
I don't think a magnet is going to work. The piston isn't steel! It'll pick up any ring pieces that's in there but won't touch the piston shaving.

My son melted down his Sport 400 and we had the same problem. I used kerosene to wash out the lower end. Its a lot less likely to ignite. Just keep washing it out till you think you got all the shavings than wash it out a couple more times. Good Luck...

What happens if you flush the engine out and a small piece of metal is lodged somewhere? You get to fix the engine again after that small piece potentially destroys the engine. The only sure-fire way to get the engine clean is to take the engine off the frame and split the case. I took a 400ex engine apart after flushing the thing out good and what did I find? More metal pieces...
By the way, if you want a more durable piston, go with the OE replacement or JE. Good luck.
