trouble shooting a 700 efi

Default trouble shooting a 700 efi

04 700 efi. when you go thru any water it spits and sputters for a few seconds. the water dont have to be deep. just splash in a little puddle. Any one have any idea's

ya right i know lol. guessing maybe coil getting wet or sucking watr in the air vents?? i would try spraying water while its running on the electronics parts to see if it will spit or sputter.just an idear guys. if it does then you know theres bad wires or exscaping fire some where.

check the spark plug wires. You will probably take them off and drain a bunch of water out of the wire loom that goes around them.

I'll check that out heller..thanks...But it was a long time ago when it happened and have changed the plugs since then...

its not the plugs that are bad, the wires are routed through wire loom that isnt split. if you have a bad wire, like i did, whenever you go through water, it doesnt drain out of the loom which caused a very rough idle and a couple of backfires. took me a while to figure out what was going on. I ended up taking the loom off, putting 2 layers of electrical tape on the wires, then put the loom back on and 2 more layers of electrical tape. Have not had a problem since.

cracked wires will cause this but if the wire is in perfect shape water shouldnt effect it. a bad cap would do it as well. i would check all connections and wires,caps to make sure there are no issues like heat cracks or anything.
