carbon soot on exhaust pipe
#1
I have noticed black soot on the end of my FMF MM 2 pipe on my Wolverine. Its not oil smoke. It doensnt smoke when idling. Could it be too large a main jet/ too rich? Its a 160 w/ dynojet. Didnt look at plug yet, just lookin for sugestions. I dont notice any smoke when im riding. I ride in Pittsburgh at about 750 Ft above sea level. It want there before I put in thejet kit.

I also have the same question. I have a 1999 400ex with FMF Powercore IV and K&N filter and jet kit. Runs great but I have noticed a little black soot build up on the screen on the tailpipe. Is it running too rich? Thanks

It could be Boomer, I have about the same mods. you do and I settled for a #155 jet(dynojet) due to it running too rich, lots of soot etc. and plug too dark etc. now don't get me wrong, I'd rather run a little too rich than too lean, a litle black stuff never hurt anyone.

too rich is when performance suffers or your spark plug doesn,t last long or you get alot of backfiring on de-acceleration.
