Default 1999 polaris xplorer 2 stroke

I have a 1999 xplorer and was wondering if any body knows any free web sites that could give me information on how to change out starter on my 400 2 stroke xplorer ive talked with the polaris dealer they said they didnt think i would have to remove the clutches since the starter is on the bottom of the engine i have heard u woulld but im not sure so i was wondering if any body knew any free web sites that would help me in changin the starter or does any one ever changed one on a two stroke and how did they do it any help would greatly be apreicated i have checked the starter syloniod and they seem to be working i used a jumper wire directly from the battery to the starter and it would not work woudnt do anything, i installed a new battery, i have went on the polaris website and saw the xploded view but wasnt to informative to me

Hello it is not very hard to take off the starter on a xplorer 400 you DO NOT' need to remove the clutches on the 400 you do on a 250 all you need to do is remove the right side foot whell the recoil starter and the skid plate. Behind the recoil starter thear is 2 bolts that thread in to the starter and on the underneeth of the bike on the oppisit end of the starter thear is a braket that goes up between the motor and the clutch backing plate thear is 2 more bolts up in thear that need to come out (..its a little tight in thear butv thay will come out..) take the wire off the starter first and thats it

if your goin to fix your starter, mihgt i add when your done mudding, there is a drain screw on the bottom of the starter motor i usually take it out after riding and let it sit overnight to make sure it dont mess up the starter. if its chain 4x4, mihgt want to check the outboard needle bearing that supports the output shaft from the tranny. ussually will eat right through those
