Radiator Fan 03 Sportsman 400
#1
I have an 03 Sportsman 400 that I bought a couple of months ago and I think the radiator fan may be malfunctioning.I've never heard it operate or cut on or off and today after riding it about 10 minutes I noticed the fan was not working. Is this normal?..or does it have to get really hot for the fan to kick in?..I've read where you can actually hear the fan cut on or off.I've never heard it operate.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

most of them run about 210 before the fan kicks on. on some bikes if your riding it you cant hear the fan running. i know on our 450 it ran pretty quiet even at idle.if you let the sit there long enough running it will kick on or overheat.

On my 2000 500 mag, you can test the fan by....
1 disconnect the harness from fan switch on radiator.
2 place a jumper wire between the wires on the connector
3 turn the ignition key to on, the fan should come on.
If you're set up similar maybe that will help. I had the same question not too long ago.
also I used the thermometer out of my turkey fryer (I'm from Texas so you know I have a turkey fryer) to check the temp of the water. 210 appears to be the magic number like stendori said.
