Where to grease/oil?
#1
I changed on the fluids on my 05 Sportsman 400. Now, where do I need to grease with a grease gun? Are there nipples I can put the gun on? Also, I've read about filling the "hub fluid". I don't think my manual went into that. Where is the filling hole, how much fluid do they need and what kind?! Will Synthetic AmsOil gearcase oil work?
Please let me know. Thanks a lot!

there isn't hub fluid in your 05-- nor is there any grease zerks. I HIGHLY suggest installing grease zerks if you ride in any mud or water. You need to grease your a-arm shafts--- the only way is to remove the a-arms and push the shaft out, clean it, grease it, & reinstall. the most important one is the lower a-arm in the rear at the bearing carrier. There are some large pins (about 1.25" diameter) that need to be greased. If not, these will back out the bolt when they seize or break the bolt.
Some of the 05's have a grease joint at the bottom of the strut (difficult to spot when it is installed) that greases the ball join at the lower a-arm up front--- check for those zerks.
Other good locations are at the top of your strut, seat clip, handlebar bushing in front of gas tank, and maybe a small amount down your throttle cable.
let me know if you have any questions.

You say "remove the arm and push the shaft out". Do U mean the CV shaft? Can you give 'er a lil' squirt of WD40 or the like for a quick lube job?
As for the rest of the standard "little" spots (ie. bushings, joints, cables, etc.) can you just give them a quick shot of WD as well? I never thought of the throttle cable, very good idea!
