Fusible Link Blown - Maybe !
#1
WAs turning my 06 Hawkeye around in the garage when it died. I heard a noise about the same as snapping your fingers and the electrical power went away. Instrument panel, headlights, or starter have no power. Pretty sure it is the fusible link but why?
I had the winch taken off a month ago and this is 1st time I've used it since. If the mechanic left a hot wire exposed it may have caused it, but am curious if there are any other reasons that this link would blow.
What has your experience been?

a dead shrt would be the only answer unless you over loaded the ele. system which i doubt. did he take off the battery cables that goes to the winch and all the wiring as well? i know on my location of the batt. on the 4oo is in the front like between the frame at a very hard place to get out, not sure if your 300 is in the same place but alot of metal around to short on a loose or bare wire. just a thought.

Thanks for the input guys. The battery is a piece of cake to remove, nothing to short out there, so if there is a short, its where the winch was. I'm pretty sure it's the F/link but gonna have to start crawling around. Thanks

sorry to hear about your trouble... the hawkeye electrical system is simple enough though... good luck with the fix... keep us updated on what you find... the fuse link is connected to the frame in the front right wheel fender area...

I think I found the cause or short that may have blown the F/link. The push connector end of the accessory wire under the instrument pod had a tiny piece of metal protruding past the plastic protector and was touching the steering column. There appeared to be some marks on the metal from sparking.
Would this wire grounding out cause the F/link to blow?
And for the life of me, I can't find anything that looks like the F/link. I would think it would have to be a hot wire from the ignition switch to the solenoid, but there are only two wires attached to the solenoid. Red power & Black ground but nothing else. What does the F/link attach to?
Obviously electrical is not my strong area.
Any ideas?

Suffering the exact same problem myself, found the blown link, not sure if its supposed to be attached to the battery or someplace else? Machine is a 03 sportsman, probably the same wiring set up...cant find a wiring diagram anywhere.
