#1
i have a 1992 polaris 350L its a 2 stroke liquid cooled. I just purchased it for 400.00 the guy was unsure what was wrong with it. I bought a couple of new spark plugs primed it with some gas a few times a bam! she smoked for a little while and now is running great. but I would like to change the tranny oil on it my questions are what kind do I use? where do I put it in at? where is the drain plug? Also, do you recommend I do anything else before taking it to the trails?

I want to know the answer to this one too. I'm a long way from a Polaris dealer, but if I could find out what fluids interchange with the Polaris brand fluids I could get them at a parts store. Somebody please help.

The only thing I use that is Polaris is there Hub fluid, But my "Clymer Manual" says ATF Fliud "Type F" can be used. In the front diff I use synthetic 75W-90 gear oil.
In the tranny I use synthetic snowmoile chain case oil.
If I had a 2 stroke I think any 2 stroke injection oil would be fine. I use Castro for my sleds and a 74 two stroke Honda 250 Elsinore I had.

I was wondering the same thing. I need to change my 330 trailboss tranny fluid. I used mobil 1 0W40 in the engine. I was going to use Shell Rotella 5W40 synth in the trans. I'd assume any 5W40/10W40 or ATF would be fine as that is what most 2 stroke MX bike trans are using. The fluid in mine is red so it may already have had ATF in in. I'd be interested in what others are using. Polaris fluids are way overpriced in my opinion.

I jsut called the ATV shop here in town and they told me to put in 10w40 or 20w50 motorcycle oil in it. (This was not Polaris) I guess I will try that. Has any one here ever broke their pull string I snapped mine in two last night is it hard to recoil it once I have put the knot back in it????

I'd go with the 10W40. If theres a Walmart near you you can get Shell rotella 15W40 or 5W40 synth way cheap and it is exceptional oil.

Polaris has a fluid called "AGL"...think it stands for automatic gearcase lubricant. Thats what is in my 01 Scrambler 2x4. Its expensive at 12$/qt, but that is enough for a couple changes.

So are we in agreement that it would be safe to run Shell Rotella 15w40 in my 1997 Xplorer 400 transmission? I've heard good things about Shell Rotella, but I know very little about ATV transmissions.
