Default Thoughts on buying a 93 blaster

I found a really good deal on a 93 blaster. What should i be looking for when going and looking at it? Engine was just rebuilt and has 3 rides on it. Any thoughts would be great. Thanks

You should definitely look to see if the oiler is working. Other than that you should probaly know what to look for, you know the obvious. Balsters are good bikes for starter bikes, and can take a lot of abuse, we had two of them for years and we are currently in the process of rebuilding one from the ground up. If you need anymore help hit me up.

other than the shake test to check the bearings especially the swingarm and carrier. if it was just rebuilt you should see that it has new gaskets.and like pyrochad said the oil system,if its not connect see what they mix it at should be 32:1.

what I would do is go to ebay and see what they are going for but if it is in good condition I would think around 1200 to1500 should be a reasonable price, they are not a hot commodity and sometimes they can be a little difficult to find used parts for it. And like gsportgoat said about the oiler, i would go ahead and dissconnect the oiler no matter what, they are notourius for going bad and you wont know it till it locks up the motor, been there done that.

Default Thoughts on buying a 93 blaster

I spent 1300 for a 92 Blaster in 1994. I sold it in 1996 for $1100. So IMHO I would spend 300-500 at most!
1993 Blaster would have to be in EXCELLENT unridden condition for me to think about buying it. It's 15 years old and you can abuse a bike alot in 15 years. Usually in that amount of time EVERYTHING needs replaced, from the bearings to the shocks, brake pads, cables, etc. They can nickel and dime you to death. Also, if it has new parts always ask yourself "Why did they need replaced?"
I've worked in the car business for 30 years and I've seen some real junk painted and polished and sold as a nice car, so I'm a little skeptical of any great deal.
Recently I saw an ad for a leftover 2006 300EX for under $2800. I would probably search for something 5 to 7 years old.
PS; My two favorite bikes are a 79 CanAM (bought in 1983 and still has the original front tire) and YZ400F which I've BEAT for 6 years. BUT, If I saw either one for sale today, I'd NEVER buy them.

Hard to find parts for?........I think not.

The Blaster is one of the easiest sport quads to find parts for. Its production was from 89 to 2006. That's almost 20 years without much change. Little things like brake/park brake and rev limiter (installed in the later models only)

Just look at ebay for 1 search and you will find 1711 items listed in relation to Blasters...yeah there are a few odd ones that mention it as one of many quads can use the part mentioned.........Wave blasters, and more.

There are almost all parts of every year model of Blaster including the oldest to the newest. I have save the best sellers names and constantly monitor them for new posts.

Look for seller partsnewandused

Also so may things could be upgraded with parts from Banshees and Warriors and other machines. If the price is good, the deal is good. Fun Machine to ride.

Things to check thoroughly are Petcock function (this is one of those things to dicker over. make sure it shuts off the fuel for transport at least or you can let a bunch of fuel be sucked out in a fair trip........)
Check the frame to A-arm connections/bushings. Steering stem bearings, Wheel bearings,......smoothe operation of cables, and brake/clutch levers not too loose or tight. Look for plugs in tires. Tire replacement is one of the more constant issues for me, but others probab ly don't have nearly as many issues as I do,........If the tires are original or exact replacements they pretty much suck. It should have a rear disc brake and drum fronts for year model. If they've upgraded, ensure the brakes work well,......all of them. If not......Make sure the brakes work well,.......at least the fronts. (there are plenty of repairs and work-arounds for rear brakes)

Make sure the kill switches work as they should. Nothing worse than watching a two stroke eat itself due toa simple gound not available. Most of the rest is of no major concern unless there's some obvious physical issue, like it's bent in the middle, numbers filed off frame,.....(indicates stolen or some other not so good thing) Rust can and will be an issue if it's eaten up......

Good luck,........and make sure you use good judgement on things not mentioned also.

Look for loose/missing bolts and nuts. I like to stand the quad up on it's wheelie bar and rock it left to right to look for play in the axle bearing carrier and swingarm bearings. Then while the front is up in the air, grab each front tire and try to twist/move it in all directions while looking for play in the front end a-arm bushings, tie rod ends, spindle ball joints, and wheel bearings. If all of this is worn out, the quad will ride like a buggy and can get rather expensive to replace everything.

I wouldn't pay over $700-800 for it. My buddy just bought a clean, all stock '03 Blaster for $1,000 and it has the hydraulic brakes all around. I would call that a good deal.
