My sons atv will not start. We ran it for about 10 minutes and shut it off and it will not start. I put a new battery and is still will not start. I'm thinking maybe its the starter but not sure. I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me out here? I can't seem to find where the starter is located. Also I wondering if there is a relay for the starter? There is a little square box on the right side just above the rear tire. This, I feel it vibrating when I try to turn it over. Folks, I'm not a mechanis, so please help. Thanks.

You say you replaced your battery so I assume that it was not cranking and cranking and just not starting. A dead battery would mean you pressed the start button and nothing happened or it cranked very slowly or just clicked or something. Did you check the battery and was it dead? The starter won't do anything if the kill switch is on or if the quad is in gear. I suppose it is possible that whatever switch keeps the starter from working when in gear could be bad or out of adjustment. If you go to this link you can see a parts diagram. It shows a starter relay above the rear tire. It could be the battery or the battery cable or the ground or the relay or the starter.

Thanks for the reply. The engine does not turn over just makes a spin kinda sound like the starter isn't working. I put a new battery in and still the same noise with no starting. I ordered a new starter tosay and will try that. It ran fine yesturday, but has been sitting for about a month in the cold. If its not the starter, what then? Thanks for the help.

Most likely the spin noise is the starter motor spinning. The gear is not extending to engage the flywheel. I don't know if there are cheaper ways to fix it, but I would think that replacing the starter will do it.
