Width of after market tires on stock wheels
#1
My wife has an 06' Sportsman 700 that is completely stock.... She likes to go mudding... A LOT. What is the widest tire that will fit on the 12x7 wheels? I hope you can go 1 inch larger than stock. I think the stock tires front are 26"x8"x12" and rear is 26"x11"x12".
We were looking hard at the Mud Wolf tire as it looks really cool but we can't find anyone to talk to yet that have bought them.
thanks for any help, we're kindof new to this.

try to get a stock size tire for performance. bigger tires take some power away unless you put a clutch kit in. then i would go 27" or 28" tall on 14" rims maybe a lift kit

I just put on 27x9x12 front and 27x11x12 on rear. They are ITP mudlite XLR's. the front tires rubbed on the tie rod ends, so I unbolted the outer tie rods and moved them to the bottom side of the bracket and they work fine. My buddy liked it so much he ordered a set and had them mounted on his factory rims.
I ended up with 2 inches of left just from the tires.

I went from stock to Swamplites on my 06 500 Sportsman (Late....Stolen!lol) I definetely needed 1" wheel spacers, which i wasn't too keen on. They WILL rub on the tie rod boots! The size I had on the fronts were 26x9x12, and the rears were 26x12x12. (The rears were totally fine!) The guy at Polaris said they would work fine........he was wrong! If you do not mind the extra 2" total width, than there is no problem. The only other option is going to after market rims that have an offset to compensate for the wider width rim and tire. Oh yes by the way those swamplites have to be one of my favourite tire for everything. The only other tire that I am looking at are the new Maxxis Zilla's. They are LIGHT!
