I have just unloaded a 2003 polaris sportsman 500 from my truck. New to me. New to ATV's.
I am getting a pinging noise, is there valve lifter adjustments (or what ever they use).
Also noticed that the bike is hard to push around the garage in neutral. Does this have to do with the EBS system?
Are there any good technical info sites on Polaris atv's?
Any discussion on these items would be great.

 

welcome to the forum and conds, on the 03' the 500 is one of the best built engines for sure. depending on the milage of the bike it may need the valves adjusted. the engine does make a normal type pinning noise to a point if your not use to it. 2nd the bike pushes hard because it weighs around 700 lbs and they do push hard normally. if its in neutral the ebs wouldnt have anything to do w/ it. try pushing it gear and you;ll see what i mean. depending on what info you want chances are you could get some to most of it right on it, but there other atv forums if you prefer.

I just pulled right front wheel tonight. Someone recently installed New brake pads. Hub would bearly turn by hand. The wheel nut seems to be over tightened. I loosened the nut and snugged it up. Made a huge difference. Look at the other side tomorrow. Also noticed when end cap was removed from the hub there was <u>oil</u> not grease. Is this something special for the AWD coils?

if it has hubs then it supppose to have hub oil.
