Whats a good oil in the wolverine 450

It may have been mentioned before but what general oil would you recomend in it. Yamalube? I have herd about how you should not using 10w30 with energy conserving on it. Thanks

Yamalube is the best.It provides the correct friction modifiers for your clutches.</end quote></div>
Actually, you need to use Yamalube because it doesn't have friction modifiers. If you use an oil with friction modifiers on the Ultramatic CVT it will start slipping.

Friction modifiers (in theory) effect wet clutch operation. I do not know their impact if any on CVT transmissions. The oils in your viscosity will not have the energy conserving designation in the certification star, so it should be a moot point. Changing any oil in the correct viscosity, especially if contaminated by water, dust ,fuel, or break in, may be more important than brand.

Sorry to hijack the thread, Is it safe to run AMS OIL synthetic 10w40 in a Wolverine? What does 80w/90 API GL mean?

if you have a wet clutch the synthetic will cause the clutch to slip, so i've herd.

I have run synthetics (Mobil One & Rotella T) in wet clutch bikes and quads ( Yamaha & Honda) for years with no problem.
GL is the spec rating for hypoid gear lube in the rear transfer case/final drive. Gear oil is right next to the motor oil at the auto parts store. I believe GL5 is the current high spec. Your quad may call for only GL4. 80/90 is the viscosity of the oil (measured different than motor oil, but let's not get into that)
Good luck

Synthetic will not cause any slipping of the wet clutch unless it has friction modifiers in it. I have experienced it first hand so I know it is the truth.
I run the Yamalube semisynthetic now after about 500 miles(100 after the big bore kit.
