Some you don't have to take the clutch housings off to get the starter out but if you want to save some frustration, get the clutch puller and take the housings and clutches off. I've done both and for no longer than it takes to remove the clutches I usually do.

The easiest way to work on teh starter is to tilt teh atv on its back bumper is ok just turn off teh fuel and keep teh lid tight it won't leak and it woun't hirt anything i left my atvs like that for a couple weeks you have to take teh recoil starter off were the flywheel is and take off your skid plate to get to it easier i woule take the clutch cover both clutches and the clutch backing plate off.

its not too bad to replace the starter by removing the skit plate..replace mine on a 250 trailblazer (same motor)last night and it only took me about 30 minutes start to finish.

Its easy but you need a clutch puller or unless it is realy cold were you are.

well im in nebraska today 65 next day 30 degrees so you have to pull the clutch any thing else ? is there any where i can get a print out or something like that

ok well you need a clutch puller do not use a slap hammer or anything like that. the puller acualy screws into teh clutch itself and goes up against the crank and on teh on position of an impack gun will pop it off. this keeps the preshure off the crank bearings and seals. and the impack gun keeps the preasure off the engine mounts compared to the breaker bar with pipe idea. the driven clutch the one on the trans should come right off.
