Questions to ask the dealer
#1
We are getting 2 SP 500 EFI's in a few weeks.
I am going to ask about life of the battery, normal time to have to replace tires and cost on both.
Also average time until break replacement and cost.
Anything else I should ask?
TIA
TDAWG
(I know some of these things are subjective based on things but I will ask anyway)

If your dealer is like mine, they won't give you a very imformative answer.
A battery that is properly maintained should last a good four years.
Tires should last you a couple thousand miles easily, unless you ride a lot of pavement. A lot of guys switch to aftermarket tires for different tread patterns, better traction in certain terrain, etc. Most of the guys I ride with replaced their stock tires with aftermarket while they were still fairly new.
Your dealer will probably charge you an arm and a leg for break-in maintenance, and probably only end up changing the oil and filter. You're better off doing the maintenance yourself if you're even slightly capable with a wrench.
I see that Polaris is offering 3.9% for up to 72 months on most of their ATV's. Sounds like the perfect time to buy!!!

Thanks for the info sheepdog...I kind of thought it would be like you explained. I do plan on changing the oil and filter my self...
I won't change the tires until I really need to I would imagine.
I guess the breaks will be like car breaks and I will know when they are going out?
Thanks again!

Ask him if you can look back in the service/repair area. See if you can ask the guys there a few questions about the machines.
After all, once you buy them, the salesperson is pretty much done with you. The guys in the back are the ones that are going to make it either a pleasurable or forgettable experience if you need any service.

hey book i hope you didnt buy one. tdaw, the questions you want to ask like tires and batteries a delaer really couldnt anwser as it all depends on the style and condations of the riding. i will tell this much about the battery is to make sure it has a good 8 to 10 hr slow charge and you'll get the full life out of it. seems these batteries have memory and when they dont get charged fully they dont hold up. first service is an oil change and top off fluids and thats it. i agree that the service guys are the ones who knows more but some of the yahoo; sworking at dealships i wouldnt let work on my wheelbarrorw.

well thats a tricky subect. personally no i wont buy one. i bought my wifes sp.400 at the right time so it came w/ a 2 yr extended warranty. if your thinking of getting one then you should ask your dealer what it will and will not cover. and it all depends on the dealer how good the warranty is when he will go to bat for you on a warranty repair.
