Default Newbie saying hi and asking a few ?'s about getting my oldest girl into racing.

Hi everyone!

I grew up on dirtbikes and am making the switch over to ATV's. I've always thought getting my wife and kids on some 4wheelers is very important to me. My wife grew up in nail shops, so 4-wheelers seems the better choice.

My oldest daughter just turned 7 in Jan and we got one of those cheap Chinese atv's for her for christmas. I figured it would be a good putt around the field or culdesac bike for her to learn on, and if she didn't like it, I wasn't out very much money. It's a TaoTao ATA 110cc (pink camo) and she rides it very well on trails and does great climbing some medium and small hills. She is very in tune with it and has a great feel for how the weight transfer works. She also seems very natural on it the one time she got in trouble. She hit a deep rut and the bike turned up the rut and went over sideways and she insticntively got herself away from the bike. She rides it responsibly and knows when to get out of the gas.

She likes it so much that she has come to me with some interest in racing. I looked into it and it seems that, at her age, she needs to be in the 50cc class.

What are some really good 50cc bikes for her? She's used to riding that little bike with a 110cc crammed in it. Are the 50cc's significantly slower than the cinese 110's? I would like to think that a REAL BIKE (honda, kawa, yam. polaris....etc...) 50cc could at least hang with the chinese 110's. I know that a good bike will be WAY more reliable and I could pass it down to my 4yo daughter (or even get one for her, too).

I guess to make my point, how do the brand name 50cc bike perform next to what she has and what would be a good bike to get her into racing with that could grow with her skill level?

Thanks,
Joe

I don't know what kinda classes you run in your area. The one of the 50cc major 5 would not be alot slower than the 110 in my opinion. The club that we race in has a 50 stock class and is the very beginer class. The easeist quad to run is one that would have the cvt clutching so the rider wouldn't have to worry about shifting, as a matter of fact most mini stock classes will not allow shifters, just cvt. Try to find a 2 stroke, they are alot quicker than 4 strokes. We run a 90 Eton Viper that is 2 stroke, I think they have a 50cc as well which would be good. The Etons are a very good quad, they run the same motor as the polaris. They are just a little smaller in true cc than polaris. The Eton is 84.5 and polaris is like 89 or 87. Just keep it a 2 stroke.

Welcome to the forums.
IMO, a 50cc will be outgrown fast. Too fast.
Maybe a 70cc that can be a 90cc in the future? With her expierience, she can and will want more than a 50 will put out.
DRR/DRX machines are the best out of the box. Check them out.
