Hey guys I just picked up a 05 phoenix for my daughter for $400. I had to clean the carb and I did a search and ajausted my plug gap and it fired right up I took off the ECR switch and it stopped backiring, the starter is also dead so I had to kick start it started. But after a couple of min riding it poped out of gear. I was able to push it right back in gear but as soon as the trans started to rap up it would pop back out and start to grind. Does anybody know what this is and how to fix it. thank you for your help

 

Come on guys I really need help with this. Also where can I get a new starter for this fine machine at a good price?

My wife has an 05 Phoenix. The transmissions are a bit wonky on them. Often, to get them in gear solidly you need to hold pressure on the shift lever and blip the throttle. Maybe a linkage adjustment would work but I'm thinking the previous owner allowed it to not engage fully enough times to grind the engagement dogs so they no longer stay meshed. You may be looking at removing the transmission and replace the worn gears. since you didn't pay much for it, you'll still be ahead of the game.

 

You need to replace several gears in the trans. Polaris or whoever made the trans had a flaw in the gears they now have a new design. Dealer wanted $1500.00 to do it found a local guy $700.00.
