2008 500 HO Front Drive shaft
#1
It seems like there is some oil leaking out of where the front shaft goes into the front case.I see some oil on the pan underneath the shaft it looks like it coming from around a bearing. What might cause this? I have had a week now and have a total of 8 hrs on the machine. Should the warranty cover this? I am going to take it to a dealer ship and have the oil changed and have them check this. They want 80.00 for the oil change and to check the bike out. Is the price ok for that? Thanks for any info!!! I want to change the oil the next time.

Man oh man, I wouldn't wait until next time to change my own oil at that price. Should only be about $30 and 15minutes to do it yourself. As for the drive shaft, that should be warrantied and there is no way in hell I would let them charge me to look at it. Good luck, I feel for ya!

They also grease the fittings, check all fluid levels and a quick once over. Usually takes an hr. or so.
$25 oil/filter
1-1.5 hr labor at $60-$80/hr.
$$ misc fluids if needed, most over $10 qt.

Thanks guys for the quick answer I will take it in asap to get it fixed! He told me he would inspect the machine and take the clutch cover off and check the belt and adjust if needed.

Yeah, same labor rate we pay here. Still would prefer to do it myself. Makes me at one with my machine! Gotta keep those other fluids on hand anyway. Just my preference not to pay someone else to do something I am able and willing to do myself. Point is, anyway, that the dealer should not be charging him to "look" at a possible warranty item.

The shop does'nt know about the front shaft leak yet but they open on tues. and I will call and see what they say.I bought the qaud in Reno but don't want to drive over 2hrs to reno cycles and gear . I will take it to the little polaris dealership here and it is still 55miles one way! Thanks again!

A leak from any of the seals in the front differential will be covered under warranty.......hence you won't be charged for anything connected to the repair/replacement of the defective part.

Yikes! 55 miles! I hope you don't have to go there often! I'm sure they will take care of it.....I thought they were saying they were going to charge you to look at it...my bad.

Colt,
Sorry, when I read your post I wasn't thinking of the input shaft seal, for some reason I was thinking of the seals from the side. Guess I should pay more attention when I'm on late at night.
Anyway, I saw your reply to my other post where you confirmed it was the input shaft seal. Must be a handful of bad seals out there. Good news is that it IS a warranty item and won't cost you a thing to get it replaced. Let us know how it goes.
