Default 2000 325 magnum charge problem

I"ve got a charge prolem on my 325. Put a new battery in and it went dead in a week. It runs if I pull start, but the lights are dim and the AWD is not working. Does the AWD run off the battery or the charge system??? What could the problem be??? ANY ONE??

First get a multimeter check voltage at battery not running should be 12-14v.the check running should be 14-15v if not 1.check grounds 2.check regulater 3.check stator. If these check out good look for a shorted wire.

The frame to engine ground strap is very important on Polaris ATVs as the engine is isolated by the rubber mounts. If the engine is not grounded to the frame, the voltage regulator (mounted on the frame), can not reference the output of the stator (from the engine), thereby producing no charge to the battery.

Also check all the connections at the battery and selenoid, Ive seen the nuts behind the battery cables loose on the selenoid, Fwith is right you do need a multi-meter to check things.

Thanks to all for the help. You said a "multimeter" Is that the same as a volt meter??? I put a volt meter on and it said just a hair over 12 volt when running. Battery charged all night, lost charge when sitting. Going to town today for a new one. Will check all the stuff you recomened. THANX
