Transmission Housing on my '95 Scrambler
#1
Ok, I was an idiot and didn't check my chain the day before I went out riding with some buddies. As we were tearing it up, I snapped my chain and it ended up putting a rather large hole in the transmission housing on the chain side right above the sprocket. My question is, does anyone know where I can find a replacement right side housing? Do I have to replace both sides of the housing due to the fact that the housings were machined together?
Also, how much of a job do I have ahead of me to get the tranny out? Am I in over my head?
Thanks in advance.

heyy welcome to the club i did that last year on teh lake going off a jump on my 400. take teh transe out. the cover is around $240 i think but i hade a realy big hole on mine and i just bought a peice of alunimum bent it to the shape of teh hole don't have to be exact and use jb weld or some other liquid weld or realy strong apoxy type stuff. realy strong!! while i had the transe all apart i replaced 1 bearing you don't need anything special. its simpler than it sounds or looks i am 14 and i did it myself. just take swingarm clutches off clutch backing air intake box rear plastics and thats around it theres around 5 or 6 bolts holding in the transe it takes a lil bit of messing around to get it out from inbetween the frame rails twisting leaning slinding and you might think its impossible at one point but it will come out. il post some pics of the job.

since it is a 95 and mine is a 98 i would deff sujest buying new wsingarm bolts with lock nuts and swing arm bushings i didn't and had it apart 2 times now the fist time i thought i didn't tighten it second time now i found the whole in my framne is bigger than the bolt by alot so i am going to weld a washer on to take up teh slack. and i am getting new bolts and lock nuts i lost 2 months or more of riding. and you might have to lean the trans over at one point to get it alltheway out and oil will come out the case so if you have a nice floor put something down. i cleaned my trans in teh sink for a a week before i even took it apart then i spraid everything with wd 40 you need some steel wool and an asortment of wire brushes. when i had it apart i took a couple days on each side case to get them reel cleen especialy were the liquid weld was going.

here's a slideshow of some of the parts of doing it.
o and i love my colored chains of of ebay you need an o-ring if you don't use o-ring you will have to take it off and clean it every ride. it was i think $40 bucks for the chain. its a 520 o ring and 100 links is enough. while you hae everything apart check to see how your sprockets are you might need new ones. i didn't but soom i am going to get the drive spricket.

the red one is on my 500 scrammy and the blue one is on my 400 sport.the scrambler has a red seat and red front electrical cover plastic thing and the 400 has blue seat and cover. the rest of teh bodys are both yellow.

Thanks for the reply and the pics! So I don't have to pull the engine out? That's great news if I don't. I have a huge hole in mine, so I might be stuck with buying the case half... I will post some pics of it when I get it out.
Thanks again for the info!
