Default polaris sportsman axle lube

i recently found a bunch of thin wire which had wrapped itself up around my rear axle right behind the hub. i do not know how long exactly that it had been on there. i had to remove the wheel and hub to get it all off. when i did take the hub off, the lubricant on the bearings was grayish looking and dry looking, almost like powdery graphite lubricant. is that what it is, and should it look like that? i was thinking that the wire that has been wrapped around axle may have been wearing away and the shavings made their way into the lubricant thus drying it up and changing the color. i only have 100 miles on it. does any one know if the lubricant is supposed to be that color and dry looking, not brownish and oily looking, from the factory? i have not pulled the other side to see if it is the same yet. thanks
