Default Warrior rear brake pad replacement Q?

So I went to replace the rear pads on my '97 Warrior and for the life of me I could not get the caliper to compress enough to get the new pads (EBC pads) to clear the brake disk. I did remove the top of the reservoir and I made sure that the new pads were mounted in the correct direction. I messed around with it for awhile and then decided to just reinstall my old pads.....as they still had some life to them. After reinstalling the old pads, I'm now getting a little dragging on the rears pads. What am I doing wrong???? Could it have something to do with the e-brake...as I did not mess with it? Should I have opened the caliper bleeder vs. just removing the fluid reservior top? Is it possible that the caliper is in need of a rebuild?

For the record, I'm new to wrenching quads and bikes. I've lost count of the disk brake services/upgrades that I've done on cars and trucks over the years.....so I thought that I knew what I was doing. I guess not.

If you have set up the parking brake in the past, you will have to loosen the adjusting bolt to get full travel back, the bolt with the jam nut physically pushes the caliper closer to allow for pad wear. back it off several turns, then install the pads and then reset the tension for the parking brake.

Default Warrior rear brake pad replacement Q?

Thanks guys. I'll try it again next weekend.....that's after I install the new Stillen cross-drilled front rotors and metal-matrix pads on my '02 Jeep Grand Cherokee. What a POS, I've warped two sets of OE front rotors in just 45k miles.
