Odometer/hour meter read 999999

Odometer/hour meter read 999999
I have a 99 honda foreman 450 ES. The odometer and hour meter read 999999 with out any change. The trip meter zeros' out when I shut down for more then a few minutes. Any suggestions of where to start looking?
