how to fix plastics
#1
Does anyone know how I can fix the plastics on a little ATV. It's a midwest bobcat 50. Gto it second hand. and the plastics on the back are pretty shot on the one side. I figureing out no body seems to have info on these LOL I've found a engine parts list but no replacement plastics. I was thinking of mayby some how putting a wire re-enforcement of ometype under and maybe garilla glueing it to the plastic to give it strength. or maybe fiberglass strips of some type. it's all there it's just way brittle and creaked. anyone have any suggestions. I know it's not the best ATV to have gotten but it was cheap, we got it to run fairly easy (clean gas tank, spark plug and carb and vroom vroom) but it's just to see if they actually use it. and to play with till I find a 90 or 110 for them and I had to think about ages 4-12 LOL so and none of them are mine, ( I'm jus the cool aunt who tries to buy all the fun toys) I'm up for any ideas
thanx

I had to do some major repairs on my commando 250 when i got it. I took the plastics off and flipped them upside down...I had roll of thin steel around from some body work I did on a car some years back...I cut pieces the sizes I needed and riveted them on the bottom side to hold the plastic together where it was cracked. From the top all you see are the rivet heads on either side of the crack. Its holding together great and really doesn't look all that bad. I know some people have used zip ties to hold stuff together but you can only do so much with them. get creative, remember, it's the top side that people see, so you can do anything on the underside and get away with it. If you don't have anything to rivet on as a patch, maybe find some kind of plastic material and some strong glue and attach it as a band-aid on the underside to hold a crack together.

Thanks That sounds like a plan!! I had read about the zip ties but as bittle as the plastic is I didn't know if it would have really held up at all. The lil quad came from a town right on the Md. bay area and had been living undar a deck, I think the salt water made it brittle around the edges. If it works I'll post some pics to show how it worked out!
thanks again!!
