What Winches/Mounting kits fit 06 Wolverine?
#1
I just bought an 06 Wolverine and ordered from Ebay a Xtreme 3000 winch (overkill I'm sure) and its mounting bracket. When I tried to install them I found the bracket only fits to the upper front bumper tubes. Even if I were to mount it this way (which I think sucks) I would have to mount the winch upside down. I tried to put it in that way just to see how it looks, and it didn't fit at all. What winches are available for an 06 Wolverine and what mounting bracket should I get with them? I was trying to stay cheaper than a warn....so I'm open to any suggestions - short of buying a bigger bike. Thanks in advance.

You will have to cut the radiator guard a little to adapt it. I have the 3000 winch as well. It mounts upside down. see my profile for a picture. Be sure to wire it to the battery. I made the mistake and wired it to the solenoid and I don't think I get enough amp draw from that to pull myself, or anyone else out of a hole before the winch stops pulling.

How much of the plastic did you have to cut? Just the bottom luver (or however the hell you spell it)? And also do you plan on correcting your wiring? I'm new to all this. I'm not sure if I should return it and just buy a smaller winch that I can mount to the frame, or if I should just make this one work.

I just shaved off the bottom section. I haven't had time to change out the wiring yet, prolly this weekend. If it works, the second thing I am going to do is get rid of that wire cable and replace it with synthetic. What a PITA.
Your call on sending it back for a smaller one. I personally think it is overkill, but, at at the time of purchase it was only $50 more for the 3000.. if I were to do it all over again, I would of listened to the majority and went with a WARN.

If I did decide to send it back and go with a warn, what models would fit? I talk to a guy at the Yamaha dealer and he told me the only Warn model that would fit was the older 15ci. I've read a few other posts and it seems that the 1500 lbs. models are a little too underpowered. Do you know anybody else that has put a bigger model on?

For the Extreme winch, how did you mount the U brackets? Mine seem too small

i have had the warn 2500 on mine ( it was an older model) lasted about 4 months and like most crappy over priced warn's it totally fried...... and now i have a champion winch 2500 and works great for a third the price....and both were installed without cutting any plastic.....as for mounting the the bumper...only thing mounted to my bumper is the roller fairleed, rest is mounted to the frame.....my mounting bracket is from quadtrax i do believe....
