Default Atc 200M Chain popping off

Hey
Great site I had just purchased a 1985 Honda ATC 200M bike is good condition. There are some issues that need repair the chain keeps popping off while driving I had loosened the 4 bolts on the rear end and tightened the chain with the chain adjustor. That how ever did not work so I had removed a link from the chain and now the chain is snug ½" play however the chain still pops off. The sprockets are in excellent condition and by eye the drive chain looks to be lined up from behind the bike. There is no major play in the rear end this is my first 3 wheel bike and need some suggestions.

First you should take a measruing tape and measure the disatnce from the center of your swing arm bolt to the center of your axle. This has to be right on or your chain will pop.

There is no swing arm it's a solid rear end.

Over time the chain does get worn to the point where it pops off. Check that.

Has to be an alignment problem if the sprockets are fine. May be a slightly bents rear sprocket too. If I remember the 200's from back then had bolts you loosened then tightened up a flimsy "tensioner" bolt. It's easy for the axle to wind up cockeyed if it's not adjusted right. Easy way to check is to put it in neutral and push it backwards. If it starts making a clunking noise from the drive, then the sprocket is not aligned properly with the chain.

How are your rear bearings? Take it by the grab bar and shake it side to side. If it is solid- bearings are ok. If there is play (trike wobbles side to side while the axle is still) the bearings are bad and you'll never keep the chain on. Replace the rear bearings.
