Grizzly Grease...Do You Need It In There?
#1
What's your opinion on all the grease Yamaha stuffs into it's sheave? Is that stuff even necessary, or is it just to keep the noise down? It seems to me that it would just make it harder for the weights to slide out (especially in cold weather).
When I put the clutch kit in my Rhino, I cleaned it all out of the sheave. I applied a little to the sliding surfaces, but not the roller channels. It seems to be working good without, but I'm worried about doing damage.
Any input, knowledge or experience would be appreciated.

The grease works its way out of the roller channels after a few full throttle rips down the road anyway. You do need grease for the cam plate to slide as easily as possible, but you don't need as much as Yamaha puts in there. The design of the sheave, with the rubber o-ring that seals the outer edge, prevents the excess grease from getting out, so it doesn't hurt anything to have a little extra.
