1986 moto 4 will only pull start
#1
I have a 86 moto 4 that turns over great with the starter but will not start. It starts and runs great on the first pull with the rope. I am pretty sure it is an ignition problem but was hopeing someone out there might have had the same problem and can tell me what fixed it. Thanks

Does the starter sound healthy? I had my moto 4s starter rebuilt because it turned over to slow and would not start. After the rebuild it fired up in a instant.

it could be a weak battery, if there not strong enough to spin the starter fast enough they wont fire up, you can try jump starting it right on the starter see if it fires up then, if it does then prolly battery is poopoo.

Starter and battery are good places to start looking - There has to be enough engine rotation for the ignition stator to start producing electricity to run the ignition system. Also weak compression will keep it from starting from the electric starter, and a faulty pickup coil (trigger coil) or weak stator will cause this too. AND there have been a very few times that dirty oil was the culprit and an oil change fixed the problem.
