Yamaha Raptor 660R
#1
Hello i just have a few question for owners or previous owners of yamaha Raptor 660r's. I am looking tro get a new machine and i found a very good deal on a 660r. I was wondering if you from experiance or herd of any problems with the raptor 660. I also herd that they are very good for trail riding and i mostly trail ride. But i am also wondering how they do in the dunes because i make a few trips to the dunes duing the summer. than you all very much.

im hoping its not a 01 raptor your looking at, if so you might have to replace your tranny $700-900 bucks, but there good for trails they have alot of low-end power and is a blast to ride about anywhere specially trails, they also are way more comfortable then say a banshee, you wont get tired as fast youll wanna keep riding, and dunes would also be a blast, raptors make good power speically low end so you wouldnt have a prob playing in the sand and there decent top speed also.so i think youd like one

most 01's have this problem only very few get away with out having a tranny overhaul, the 02 and up are fine tho as far as the tranny, some times you can pick up an 01 raptor for cheap than just get an alba tranny kit for like 700-900 bucks then you got a good quad for like 2000-3000 bucks but yea its just a bad design flaw im guessing with the first year of the raptors i think its the second gear that usually locks up im not sure, but id stay away form an 01 unless you play on getting a new tranny, as far as swapping a few newer gears, shift forks, drums or whatever out of a newer raptor im not sure i was tring to figure that out for myself some people said you could some said you couldnt.

if its an 01 and hasnt pooped yet then it either will soon or maybe it will be fine you never know...but its a risky situation, and its a fact that the 01 has faulty transmissions but i would just be cautious if its an 01

it sure is, but dont be suprised if tranny acts dumb later on, but its possible it might have been fixed already, regardless for $2100 its a steal, worst case you might have to buy new gears, if so then your gonna have a solid bike after you fix that
