Default How to clean K&N hardstyle filters?

what do u all think is the best way to clean K&N filters? i know how to clean foam filters there easy, but the K&N filters have like a hard surface, do i just blow it out with air? or can you soak in water then blow air to it and do u use filter oil on them? i dont have much experience in cleaning these filters, im sed to using uni's and twin airs

I used an outerwear when i ran a K+N filter. Would just spray it with either and the dirt ran right off. I use the same method to clean my foam filters just takes more either, probably would also work good for the K+N.

I read somewhere that you wash them out with a mild detergent and water, then rinse them and let them air dry or blow them out to speed up the drying. It said to never soak them in gas because it will eventially deteriorate the filter.

Just buy the cleaning kit. It is worth it. I us K & N on the quad and truck and the cleaning kit is the way to go. They are available at most auto parts stores.

You just spray the cleaning solution all over the filter, let it soak for 10 minutes or so, then rinse from the inside out. (Low pressure. Use garden hose w/o nozzle or laundry tub faucet) I use a paint brush while I rinse it to get in between the pleets.

Then you let it air dry over night and re-oil it when its dry and you are good to go.

The kit has the cleaner and the oil.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I just shake it to get out as much water as possible, then just let it sit overnight and it is usually dry in the morning.
