Default 05+ Sportsman Dual Rear Discs????

I was wondering if there is any company or person that has put dual rear disc brakes on their 2005 and up Polaris Sportsman. Full-size Sportsman of course. Any help is much appreciated.

welcome to the forum. ive never seen or read anything about it being done. you would need a whole new master cyclinder to handle the extra load i would think.

i was thinking the same thing. thank you for the welcome by the way. i noticed that on my sportsman there is an identical caliper mounting bracket on the left spindle. i was thinking of putting another caliper and disc on that side for more stopping power. the bleeder screw and fitting for the stainless braided line are interchangeable if im not mistaken. the only thing that would need fabrication would be a splitter block. as far as the new master cylinder goes, im not qualified to say if itll stop both rear tires or not. the hand brake does all three, so the foot brake has got to be somewhat of a strong cylinder.

I don't know if it would help anyway. The majority of the braking is done on the front end of most wheeled vehicles. There's not as much traction on the rear when you hit both brakes and the rear lifts as the front dives. If anyone doubts that, lock up the rear brake of a bike, then lock up the front at the same speed.

the thing is, the master cyclinders on the rear brakes arent vry good and often stop working or need to be bleed alot. there isnt enough pressure or enough of a resior to hold enough brake fluid to make it work correctly in either front or back, this is just a guess though. your right about the holes being already there as they mass produce them and their interchangable.

Don't have to look very far for dual discs. X2, Touring and International models all have dual discs. Those models have different master cylinders also. In X2 and Touring it's just 1 more disc in the rear. In International-models, which we have here in EU, braking system is little different. All 4 brakes are operated with either hand or foot-brake, separately or at the same time.

thanks for the advice and help guys. i really appreciate it. i think im going to throw the master cylinder from an X2 on my Sportsman with the another disc and caliper. im glad you brought up the traction point jumbo frank. i was just thinking more in terms of helping out my independent braking qualities since i do have the brake splitter from Hot Seat Performance. im thinking i might be able to slide the rear end out on a few more corners with the right extra stopping power.

the extra brake caliper is not going to help much, when you apply hand brake 70% of the braking power is used by the front. also, the rear drive is solid, meaning if you slow one wheel the other follows, only one brake is needed on the back. if you still need to install more brakes, you will need to install a new bearing hub, the left side does not include the mount for the brake caliper. NO EXTRA HOLES.

i realize this scrambler, but i still would like to try it out for myself. a lot of theories are expressed about this topic, and id like to see how reality stacks up with these theories.

just a heads up for yall, i have a brake splitter kit on my Sportsman that includes another master cylinder, mounted on the right handle bar, for the rear brakes only! this cylinder is exactly the same as the right side internally. you can get on of these kits from Hot Seat Performance.
