2001 Sportsman 400 seat issues
#1
The seat on my sportsman keeps coming unlatched from the front. It appears that the seat is moving towards the rear of the ATV while I'm riding. I noticed there is a 1-1/2" long plastic post under the seat (part of the seat frame) that fits into a round pastic hole that is part of the ATV plastic body under the seat. I'm thinking that I remember a rubber grommet in this hole that would keep the seat from moving. Does anyone know if I am correct? I do not see this grommet in the parts manual and the parts dealer wasn't any help. Can someone who has a 2001 Sportsman 400 check and see if there is a grommet in the body under the seat that the post fits in to? I'd appreciate it.
If there is how do I get one of the grommets? If not, any suggestions on how to keep the seat from moving?

I think you are right about there being a rubber grommet there. I also could not find a part number from Polaris' website. If it helps this is the part number for the current grommet. 5412994 Maybe they were the same or it will help them understand what you are looking for.

Thanks MooseHenden,
I passed this info & part number on to a dealer I know who will try to figure out what I need. If there is anyone else out there who knows the specifics on this grommet please let me know. Had the front of the seat come loose several times while riding. What a shocker. Currently I put a piece of water hose over the seat post to take up some slack but the plastic (hole) is being bent & I'm afraid it will eventually break off - not good.

Got the grommet. For some reason it's left off the drawings after 2000. Thanks for eveyone's help.
NOW I have another issue. Both my rear CV jont boots split open at the trans. Can I get replacement boots or do both axles have to be replaced?

i have an 03 polaris sportsman 400 but i shouldn't make a difference. i had that same problem but now i found a way to fix it. even though i looks ladged you need to pull the handle up on the back of the seat and sit at the back so you it is fully ladged. for the front when you think its ladged pull on both front corners and make sure there in place.

The problem was that the grommet was missing that the post on the bottom of the seat frame fit in to. Without the grommet the seat would shift even if the seat was latched correctly. Found the grommet. Now everything works fine.
