Scrambler starting problems
#1
2001 Scrambler 2x4
When you push the start button the starter will engage and the motor will begin to crank then then it sounds like something lets go and starts to freewheel inside. If you keep trying the motor will load up and backfire. Sometimes it will not "freewheel" and it will start.
It will pull start on the first or second pull. When the motor is warm it will start on the first pull every time.
I have installed a new battery as the old one was leaking.
I found corrosion on the battery cables to and from the solenoid. Removed corrosion. There was no corrosion on the posts of the solenoid.
Recoil cover case has all bolts in and is snugged up tight to the engine case.
Pulled recoil cover, removed bendix. Found slight crack in the bushing that hold the shaft of the bendix. The bushing is on the case side not the cover side.
I removed the bendix and re assembled. Even when cold starting will pull start within 2-3 pulls.
No clicking, starter does turn the bike over. I am thinking I have a bad bendix.
Opinions???

you mean the starter will turn the engine over like its suppose to all the time but just wont fire it up? make sure to check the battery volage to see what it is while its trying to crank it to make sure its at least 12 volts. ive seen where the battery would turn the enigne over but didint have enough jucie to fire the engine though. imo.
